UP Astrosoc is going to China!

The University of the Philippines Astronomical Society (UP Astrosoc) is currently the most active university based astronomy group in the country. Since its founding in 1991, UP Astrosoc strives to promote Astronomy to the general public — especially to students.

The organization had developed its own lecture modules as well as observation techniques through the years. Aside from the weekly stargazing held at its headquarters in PAGASA Astronomical Observatory, UP Astrosoc occasionally sends out its student astronomers to various observation expeditions.

The total solar eclipse of 1995 in Languyan, Tawi-Tawi is one of the most notable astronomical events the organization observed. A team of twelve then-student members travelled to the southernmost islands in the country to witness and record the eclipse.

UP Astrosoc will continue making history as it will be sending another delegation to observe the longest total solar eclipse of our lifetime to Shanghai, China this July.

The Shanghai Solar Eclipse Expedition Team will dare set foot on a foreign land with their equipment and hearts to witness this historic event. With a few days remaining, the group is intensively preparing for the eclipse of our lifetime.
